My name is Shannon and I am a mother to two lovely little girls, Rio and Penelope. They are the energy and inspiration behind Little Ritual, and my “why” in creating it. For years, I worked professionally in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. Creativity flows through me, and makeup artistry not only helped me exercise an area of creativity, but it also allowed me to work closely with clients. This always lead to building connections and relationships all while getting to lift each client up through conversations in my makeup chair as I guided each and every individual on how to simply enhance their own unique natural beauty.

Those years were truly rewarding, but the makeup industry also shed a lot of light on how toxic our everyday body-care products are. From lipsticks to mascaras to deodorants and body creams, once I started researching cosmetics more, I was alarmed and disturbed to know that we are exposed to hidden poisons in products we are marketed and influenced to trust. It became an important priority to source cleaner, safer, natural products that were still effective and enjoyable to use.

As time moved on, so did I. Part of being creative is getting bored and I began tossing ideas around about exploring a new professional path. Another creative space for me is the kitchen. I love creating recipes, cooking from scratch and feeding my loved ones. A good meal soothes the soul and I believe in the healing power of wholesome made-with-love foods. I wanted to do something where I could build knowledge, work with food and continue to work with people and so I enrolled at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where I earned my diploma and became a registered holistic nutritionist.

That accomplishment opened up a whole portal of new knowledge and inspiration.I didn’t want to stop there so I began studying essential oils and aromatherapy. I committed to various courses and earned multiple certifications in chemistry, emotional release, and aromatherapy treatments. This is where I merged all 3 creative forces. Makeup artistry taught me that true beauty starts with healthy skin so I took that inspiration, along with my knowledge in holistic nutrition and aromatherapy and began formulating clean skincare recipes using plant based ingredients, pure essential oils and botanicals. This is where my first business “Fruits & Roots Holistic’s” was born. Through this collection, I continued to expand my knowledge, experiment and build my business. Fruits & Roots grew and evolved and so did I. We welcomed our first daughter, Rio in July 2021 and that is when my focus shifted and my desire for clean and trustworthy mama and baby products inspired new formulations.

Becoming a new mother during the pandemic came with challenges, moving through postpartum and not being able to leave the house for self care was one of them and the driving force in creating supportive products for me like our Happy Mama Sitz Bath and our Balancing Mist to creating our Lavender Body Butter for my baby girl. Not only was this a gentle moisturizer, it also served as a “little ritual” we enjoyed every single night after Rio’s bath where she enjoyed a lavender body butter massage that I enjoyed giving to her. We never missed a massage! This is where the collection grew as our wants and needs evolved through the postpartum motions, and Little Ritual was born.

Little Ritual is created in Belfountain, a little village tucked in the rolling hills of Caledon where we have chosen to raise our daughters. Abundant forests, cleansing rivers and peaceful meadows are what surrounds us here. A walk in the woods with my daughters and dogs is where I feel most connected to myself, where I can hear my inner voice, where I get inspired and where I feel my vibration rise. My hope is that Little Ritual will always be a reflection of the nurturing and uplifting vibration that Mother Nature encourages, where there is space to breath, think and be with yourself.
